In June of 2016, Governor John Bel Edwards signed a bill to let patients have direct access to Physical Therapists in the state of Louisiana!

So what does this mean for you? This law allows you to access a Doctor of Physical Therapy without a referral or prescription from a Physician.

Although Louisiana law states a prescription/referral is no longer needed for physical therapy services, some insurance companies still require a prescription/referral from a physician, chiropractor, or dentist. Before setting up an appointment with your Physical Therapist, please contact your insurance company to see if your insurance policy requires a prescription or referral.

If you are choosing to pay out of pocket for physical therapy services and not go through insurance, you will NOT need a prescription/referral to begin seeing a Doctor of Physical Therapy.
